Saturday Photo: More Pears Than the Squirrels Can Eat
For whatever reason--lots of rain, good pollination, sheer luck--the pear crop on our two center-city pear trees this year is stupendous. Usually the squirrels get all, but there are too many for them even. Unfortunately the quality isn't all that great, but I've made pear chutney and last night we put them in a big fruit salad where they went well with the other fruits.
And just to show how much things can change in a few months: here's the backyard with the pear trees in January.

Strawberry and rhubarb pie is a favourite here in June. Pears and rhubarb might be good too.
