Ugly Women to Beauty Disadvantaged Ones: Is This Progress or Human Nature?

Australian--and other--women are up in arms because the mayor of a small Outback town has invited "beauty disadvantaged women" to come to his town to find happiness because men there far outnumber women.

"May I suggest if there are five blokes to every girl, we should find out where there are (such) women and ask them to proceed to Mount Isa," John Molony was quoted in the Townsville Bulletin as saying.

Makes me think of the old song from the 1960s by Jimmy Soul:

"If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you,"

At the time the song didn't stir as much controversy, but the message was quite clear. Don't know if the outcry is progress, although I suspect there is still some truth to it, alas!
